Today, February 2nd, is World Fire Cider Day. Fire Cider is a traditional herbal medicine for supporting your immune system, and it's also amazing in culinary preparations. As you may have read or seen online recently, a company has obtained a trademark for the term "fire cider" and has been actively going after small businesses who make and sell their own versions, some of whom have been doing so for many years before the trademark owners started selling theirs. It is very disheartening to hear that a company has taken the rights to a term which has been in use for decades if not longer and was not coined by them. Rosemary Gladstar, a well known herbalist, coined the term fire cider in her published and copyrighted works decades ago and shared her recipe freely for others to use and expand on. If you have a moment to spare before the big game today would you please head over to this link, https://www.change.org/petitions/united-states-patent-and-trademark-office-revoke-fire-cider-trademark, and sign the petition to the USPTO to revoke the trademark on fire cider. As we all wait patiently for a resolution, I have changed the name of our fire cider to fyre cider, as the company in question has already reported our etsy shop and had our fire cider removed. Today you can celebrate this tradition by making up a batch of your own fire cider. Below is a recipe from Rosemary.
